Lil Wayne returned to the stage last night at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas for the finale of Drake’s Light Dream’s and Nightmares tour, stunning fans by joining Drake midway through their new single “Miss Me.” “I’m fresh from my vacation,” Weezy said as the crowd erupted into absolute pandemonium. “I swear to god ain’t nothing, nothing, nothing like home.”

Rumors had been swirling all day that Lil Wayne—just two days out of prison—was in Vegas and planning on performing at the show. During opening sets by AJ Hernzy and Tyga the sold-out crowd repeatedly went into chants of “Weezy,” and erupted into cheers when his image appeared on the screens. During Drake’s headlining set he recounted getting a phone call from Lil Wayne the previous day. “It was from a number I never seen in my life,” he said. “All I heard was [imitating Wayne's voice], ‘Yo, I got a new number. It’s Weezy.’ I said, ‘Man, it’s great to hear your voice on a regular line.’”(Greene)

“Sufjan Stevens opened his show with “Seven Swans,” then thanked the audience “… for letting me be dramatic, I am a drama queen.” After learning that Stevens went through a life-threatening illness while completing The Age Of Adz, it’s hard to accuse him of dramatics. But his L.A. show did feature self-indulgence as a theme — (surprising) costume changes, huge, Royal Roberts-inspired projections of himself behind himself. Photographer Graeme Flegenheimer says Stevens had an explanation: “Sufjan picked [Roberts] because he thinks they both share the notion that big personal events reflect like giant events, Sufjan said like an earthquake.” Delusions of importance, earthquakes — looks like he kept his show locally relevant.”

Matt & Kim performed to a sold out crowd at the Music Box. They rocked a lengthy 70-minute set covering their debut album, Grand, as well as their new album, Cameras.

Yoko Ono played two nights at the Orpheum Theater, with special guests covering her songs. Guests included: GZA, Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore, Nels Cline, TuNe-YaRdS, Iggy Pop and the one and only Lady Gaga.

350 people made it in for Arcade Fire’s Big Sur performance. The show was a solid 1 1/2 hours – cut short by the rain, leaving everyone begging for more. The entire band stuck around to give signatures and photo ops, which helped appease fans.

Pavement finished their reunion tour at the Hollywood Bowl. Noise rock veterans Sonic Youth opened, along with new noise rockers No Age.

The Black Keys brought their soul driven rock-n-roll to the Hollywood Palladium. Nicole Atkins opened.

Vampire Weekend and Beach House closed out the summer series at the Hollywood Bowl. A fantastic show, despite the record-breaking heat.
